Description
Up In Smoke Fire Services Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced, reliable and motivated Fire Technician to join our team in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
This is a full-time position working across a diverse range of fire protection equipment and systems throughout Port Hedland and the wider Pilbara region.
Duties may include:
Inspection, testing, servicing and maintenance of fire protection equipment
Portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets
Fire hose reels and hydrant systems
Emergency and exit lighting
Fire detection and alarm systems
Fire sprinkler systems
Fire pumps and associated equipment
Mobile plant fire suppression systems
Underground fire service pipework, fault finding and repairs
Repairs and replacement of underground fire mains and associated components
Fault finding, repairs and rectification works
Installation of fire protection equipment and systems
Completion of service reports, asset registers and compliance documentation
Working across commercial, industrial and mining-related sites throughout the Pilbara
We are ideally looking for someone who is willing to relocate to Port Hedland and become a long-term member of our team. Company-provided donga accommodation is available for the successful applicant.
While a residential arrangement is preferred, we are also willing to consider FIFO arrangements for the right person.

Job Requirements
The successful applicant will ideally have:
Previous experience within the fire protection industry
Experience inspecting, testing, servicing and maintaining fire protection equipment and systems
Experience with underground fire services, pipework repairs and fault finding would be highly regarded
Relevant fire protection qualifications and/or licences
A current Australian driver's licence
The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
The ability to accurately complete service reports and compliance documentation
A professional approach when dealing with clients
A strong commitment to quality workmanship
Good time management and organisational skills
Reliability, punctuality and initiative
A willingness to undertake additional training and qualifications where required
The ability to work safely across commercial, industrial and mining environments
Not qualified or experienced in every area listed?
We are willing to provide additional training and qualifications for the right applicant. We are looking for someone with solid fire industry experience, a good work ethic and a willingness to learn and expand their capabilities.
Residential applicants willing to relocate to Port Hedland are preferred, with donga accommodation provided. FIFO arrangements may also be considered for the right applicant.
Requirements
The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience within the fire protection industry and hold relevant fire protection qualifications.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential / Preferred:
CPP20521 Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing, or equivalent/superseded qualification and relevant industry experience
Current Australian driver's licence
Construction Industry White Card
Previous experience inspecting, testing, servicing and maintaining fire protection equipment and systems
Sound knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and fire protection servicing requirements
Ability to accurately complete service reports, inspection records and compliance documentation
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship
Highly Regarded:
CPP30821 Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing, or equivalent
CPC32820 Certificate III in Fire Protection (Fire Sprinkler Fitter), or equivalent trade qualification
Experience with fire sprinkler systems
Experience inspecting and testing fire pumpsets
Experience with hydrant and hose reel systems, including flow and pressure testing
Experience with emergency and exit lighting
Experience with fire detection and alarm systems
Experience with mobile plant/pre-engineered fire suppression systems
Experience with installation, servicing and repairs of fire suppression systems
Experience with underground fire mains, underground pipework, fault finding and repairs
Experience carrying out repairs and replacement of underground fire service components
Experience with five-yearly testing and other major fire system servicing
Relevant High Risk Work Licences, EWP, Working at Heights, Confined Space or other site-based qualifications
Current First Aid/CPR
Relevant electrical or plumbing licences where required for the work being undertaken
Don't Have Every Qualification?
We understand that experienced Fire Technicians may specialise in different areas of the industry.
Applicants are not required to already hold every qualification or competency listed above.
For the right person, Up In Smoke Fire Services is willing to provide and pay for additional training and qualifications required to expand their capabilities across the services we provide.
We are looking for someone with solid industry experience, a strong work ethic, reliability, initiative and a willingness to continue learning.
Residential / FIFO
Our preference is for the successful applicant to relocate to Port Hedland and reside locally, with company-provided donga accommodation available as part of the employment package.
However, we are also willing to consider a FIFO arrangement for the right applicant.
The successful applicant will also be provided with a company vehicle donga accommodation and company phone.
