Description
Purpose
The reference librarian will be part of the library's public services staff and will participate in a variety of the library's functions, including providing reference services and faculty research support, classroom teaching and other instructional activities.
Responsibilities
Provide reference services to students and staff of the law school, as well as the university community at large, members of the bar, and the general public. Provide research and reference services to law school faculty, including support through the library’s liaison program. Participate in basic and advanced legal research course preparation and teaching. Participate in the library’s orientation programs and conduct tours. Develop and offer instructional sessions and outreach programs to educate students on legal research strategies and sources. Serve as a resource on emerging legal research technology, including AI-assisted systems. Other related functions as assigned.
Salary
$90,000/year
Schedule
8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday (40 hours/week). Hours will fluctuate throughout the year. On-site work with eligibility for one remote day per week is the normal expectation for this position.
Required Qualifications
A JD from an ABA-accredited law school is required. Candidates must have a master’s degree in Library or Information Science (MLS or equivalent degree) from an accredited program or be enrolled in a MLS (or equivalent) program. Applicants must have a strong service orientation and an interest in innovation. Applicants must have a demonstrated exemplary work record, professional demeanor, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants must have excellent organizational, time-management and analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience and experience in an academic law library. One or more years of experience practicing law. Experience or interest in emerging legal technology, including the use of AI research platforms.
