SummaryAs the Director of Sales & Events, you will embody the ethos of the Miraval wellbeing brand, be an empathetic leader, and focus on the maximization of group sales segments, including corporate, incentive, and social for the resort. This candidate specializes in selling group and event sales including all revenue streams (rooms, spa, programming, food and beverage). It is pivotal that this candidate has experience as a proven sales director that prides themselves on team development, peer relationships, and knowledgeable strategies to grow and develop business.
The Director of Sales & Events retains an important peer role on the property Leadership Committee and is present on-site inspiring the sales and events team on a rotating schedule throughout the quarter. While this does represent a Leadership Committee role, it is important to understand that it holds a robust sale quota and follows the Hyatt Sales Incentive Plan.
This person is tasked to hire, train, manage, and coach group sales and event planning managers and oversee their responsibilities. The best candidate has a passion for direct sales and prides themselves on their communication skills and attention to detail. With a proven track record of revenue-growing sales tactics, the ideal candidate challenges norms and welcomes new and unique sales models within the wellbeing resort industry revenue-forward prospecting tactics.
The Director of Sales and Events is engaging and comfortable giving presentations in front of clients and stakeholders. Expert business responsibilities include team coaching, management of sales expenses, analyzing data reports, forecasting rooms, and F&B revenue, managing a lead and tentative pipeline, managing the client/lead database, and more. They also hold an important role as the lead property-level commercial leader, therefore representing the interests of all sales segments at key stakeholder meetings and presentations. They also are the lead at departmental head duties such as expense management, budget building, annual strategic plan building and more.
This position will report directly to the General Manager. This position works closely with the Regional Director of Commercial Services and the General Manager to align and develop best practices for our specialized brand contributing to brand growth and property awareness. In addition to managing team efforts, the Director of Sales & Events also designs a sales segmentation to manage personally with a robust quota responsibility that serves their resort. This position is also responsible to align and develop best practices for our specialized brand contributing to brand growth and property awareness.
As part of a mission and Agile Way of Working, this role has additional responsibilities as the lead at designated strategic focal areas on behalf of all US-based Miraval Resorts. These duties are designed together with the GM and may adjust annually. The Miraval Resorts Sales & Events Directors are committed to the larger success of Miraval Resorts, and all equally contribute to its evolution.
Qualifications
Specific Duties:
• Ability to demonstrate a proactive approach to sales and be a dynamic sales professional who will positively impact our business and clearly understand the Miraval brand
• Maximize total hotel revenue, including room revenue, banquet, spa, and programming
• Maximize segmentation mix and develop business from existing channels while creating new business development opportunities
• Manage strong relationships with senior stakeholders - internally and externally
• Ability to implement structure to maximize productivity
• Passion for direct sales in the group segment developing new business, solicitation & prospecting, and acquisition of key accounts will be implemental for this role
• Strong relationship builder across internal and external clients, and other market and industry sources
• Plan, organize, and host familiarization, client events, team roadshows, and entertainment
• Working closely with Miraval Regional Sales leadership to develop and implement strategies to maximize business
• Oversight of strategic annual plans by segment and focusing on new business research, solicitation, prospecting, and acquisition will be a large part of this role in collaboration for the entire Sales & Events team
• Preparation of the annual topline Group & Banquet revenue and expense budgets
To be successful:
• Embraces the ethos and culture of the Miraval wellbeing brand
• University degree or diploma qualification in Sales or Marketing and/or Hospitality or Tourism Management
• Minimum 8 years' experience within a 4-5 star hotel sales environment
• Understands that the Miraval clientele may vary from traditional hotels in regard to target audiences, size of group and intention of visit.
• Excellent emotional intelligence
• A self-starter who is highly driven, solutions orientated, persistent and adaptable to change
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, relationship management and networking abilities
• A proven track record in achieving targets and yield management
• A collaborative and motivating leader of others with a strategic and analytical focus
• Ability to recognize trends and shift strategy to maximize results
• Extended understanding of P&L, revenue management procedures and KPI measurements
• Ability to identify unique selling points to separate experiences from the competition
• Passion for direct sales and willingness to jump in to assist to develop relationships and territories
• Flexible to work some nights and weekends when necessary based on business and staffing needs
