Job Description
The Director, Medical Education and Risk Consulting is responsible for the strategic oversight of clinical education and risk reduction initiatives that enhance patient safety and reduce liability across healthcare settings. This senior leader drives the development, delivery, and evaluation of accredited continuing education programs for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and pharmacists. Additionally, the role oversees and provides expert risk consulting to healthcare organizations, focusing on clinical risk identification and mitigation and safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy
Lead the strategic direction for CME/CE and risk consulting services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and evolving clinical risk trends.
Serve as an advisor to Med-IQ leadership, content team, and healthcare clients on the intersection of education, risk, and safety.
Champion innovation in continuing education delivery, including online learning, live courses, and case-based modules.
Business Development
Collaborate with leadership and business development teams to identify new opportunities for consulting and education services.
Participate in prospecting, client discovery, proposal development, and strategic pitch presentations.
Contribute to the closing of new clients by articulating the value of education and risk consulting services.
Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and meetings to build visibility and client relationships.
Continuing Education (CME/CE)
Oversee the development and accreditation of high-quality continuing education programs for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists.
Ensure compliance with accrediting bodies (e.g., ACCME, ANCC, ACPE) and maintain all required documentation and reporting standards.
Direct the needs assessment, curriculum design, faculty recruitment, and outcomes evaluation for all CME/CE activities.
Integrate clinical risk data and claims trends into educational programming to drive behavior change and improved outcomes.
Risk Consulting
Lead and in some cases directly provide expert consultation to healthcare organizations on risk management strategies related to high-risk clinical practices, patient safety events, and malpractice claims.
Lead, and in some cases conduct, clinical risk assessments to identify areas for improvement.
Translate complex data and event findings into actionable education and operational recommendations.
Team & Project Management
Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of education specialists, consultants, and analysts.
Manage budgets, operations, and performance metrics for continuing education and risk consulting services.
Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring delivery of high-value services and measurable outcomes.
Education, Experience & Values
Clinical degree required; NP, PA, RN, PharmD preferred
At least 10 years of experience in healthcare quality, risk management, or patient safety, including 5 years in a leadership role.
In-depth knowledge of CME/CE accreditation standards (e.g., ACCME, ANCC, ACPE) and adult learning principles.
Proven experience developing and delivering education for multidisciplinary clinical audiences.
Strong understanding of clinical risk, medical liability, and regulatory frameworks in healthcare.
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), or relevant certification in continuing education is strongly preferred.
Experience using data from malpractice claims or safety events to inform education or consulting services.
Experience in consulting, healthcare systems leadership, or provider education strategy.
Up to 30% travel for client visits, conferences, and presentations.

Base salary range is $123,570 - $167,185. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
